(Stone of Hope Awards ceremony)....They were recently held at the Brock Brand Seed headquarters in El Centro.
The Imperial Valley Martin Luther King Jr Committee hosted the awards ceremony. Because of the current pandemic, the event had to be rescheduled. It is normally held every year in January to coincide with the National Martin Luther King Day. This year 10 were honored with a Stone of Hope award. They included Angela Delgado, Executive Director of Imperial County Workforce Training Center. Kathy Dunn, daughter of Calipatria pioneer family and Imperial Valley north-end advocate. Zula Hartfield, current El Centro Senior Club president and former IVC analyst. Brett Houser, current Brawley Police Department Commander. Ricardo Ortega, Calexico Neighborhood House Special Projects Coordinator. Rosario "Dona Chayo" Pelayo, lifelong and historic migrant worker activist. Lupe Quintero, farm worker and Black Lives Matter activist, former California Rural Legal Assistance advocate. Grace Sesma, founder of Imperial Valley MANA and Kumeyaay Nation advocate. Lisa Solomon, intersectional advocate for LGBTQ. And Doctor Tien Vo, community doctor, humanitarian, and volunteer.
