The California Highway Patrol released more information about the horrific traffic accident Tuesday morning.
The accident involved a Ford Expedition crammed with 25 people that hit a tractor trailer rig loaded with gravel. The accident was reported shortly after 6:00 a.m. on Highway 115 at Norrish Road near Holtville. According to the CHP Border Division Chief Omar Watson , 12 people died at the scene and one other individual died after being transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Six people are being treated at ECRMC and three at Pioneers Memorial Hospital. Four patients were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for advanced treatment of trauma. According to the CHP , the injured ranged in age from 16 to 55. The driver of the big rig sustained moderate injuries. The accident remains under investigation by several agencies.
