(Strong winds swept through southeast Coachella Valley)...The winds took down 14 power poles along a major transmission line.

The Imperial Irrigation District says at 4:20 Thursday morning the downed poles caused power outages to 3,400 IID customers. The repair projct was an all hands on deck situation, according to Imperial Irrigation District Energy Manager Marilyn Del Bosque Gilbert. She said IID crews were assisted by Irby Construction crews in a non stop reconstruction of the transmission line. The outages were reported in Bombay Beach, North Shore and Mecca. Grid operators worked to reroute power while reconstruction efforts were underway. Potable generators were used to assist customers in remote areas. The crews worked into the night Thursday in an effort to ensure everyone had the power restored.
