Imperial County emergency services agencies responded to a semi-tractor trailer rig on fire Monday afternoon.

The big rig caught fire at about 2:30 p.m. on southbound Highway 86 near Barth Road. The tractor was completely burned and the trailer partially destroyed. Diesel fuel spilled from the saddle tanks of the truck causing a hazardous material spill. One southbound lane has been closed due to the accident. The closure expected to last through Tuesday morning.
