El Centro Fire Department personnel responded to the third two-alarm structure fire in two days.

At about 11:18 p.m. Tuesday night , El Centro Police and Fire Dispatch received multiple calls of a fire in the vacant Mayan Hotel at 5th and State Streets. The first fire units arrived on the scene within 4 minutes and found the three-story building with heavy smoke coming from the main entrance and second-story windows. A second alarm was issued for assistance from the City's of Calexico , Holtville and Imperial as well as Imperial County Fire.

Firefighters were able to rescue a woman from a second-story window and search the building for two other individuals who may have been in the building. Those two apparently were able to escape the burning building on their own. Firefighters were able to make an interior attack on the fire and were able to bring it under control after opening interior walls and ceilings. No civilians or firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire in the supposedly empty building remains under investigation.
