(Smuggling attempt foiled)...It happened Wednesday night.

At around 10:00 pm a vehicle drove up to the Highway 86 checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine team alerted to the vhicle as it waited in the traffic line. The vehicle was sent to the secondary inspection area. During the inspection Border Patrol agents found two packages in an ice chest. The packages tested positive for methamphetamine. The meth weighed a total of 2.71 pounds, with an estimated value of $6,097. The drivr of the vehicle, a 56 year old female, and the passenger, a 47 year old female, both US citizens, the vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office.
