U.S. Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) officers made a big haul early Thursday morning.
CBP officers at the Calexico downtown port of entry seized fentanyl and methamphetamine valued at more than $2 million that was discovered hidden in an SUV. The vehicle approached the border crossing at about 4:00 a.m. and was referred to secondary inspection where an X-ray imaging machine discovered anomalies in all four doors , dashboard and quarter panels. A CBP canine team also alerted to the rear bumper. A search of the SUV led to the discovery of 48 pounds of fentanyl and 517 pounds of meth hidden throughout the vehicle. The 55-year old driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
