(The swarm continues)...There have been almost 400 earthquakes since last count.
The swarm began at just after 3:00 pm Wednesday. The earthquakes have ranged from micro quakes to moderate. The strongest earthquake was reported as a magnitude 4.9. Micro quakes are are below magnitude 3. At 8:20 Thursday morning the US Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 3. All the earthquakes are centered 2 to 4 miles northeast of Westmorland. Seismologists say the earthquakes are not close to the San Andreas fault. They say while swarms are not that unusual in Imperial County, residents may want to prepare for a stronger quake. The seismologists say they cannot predict when the swarm will end. So far there has been no structural damage reported and there have been no injuries reported as a result of the shaking. Some stores have reported merchandise being tossed from their shelves during the moderate earthquakes.
