AB 1657 Was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom. Garcia says the measure instructs the California Energy Commission to establish a blue ribbon commission to explore and expand the state's emerging lithium recovery industry. He said after years of concerted advocacy, they have successfully secured California's commitment to explorte the abundant lithium extraction, renewable power potential of the Salton Sea geothermal resource area. Garcia said in addition to helping meet the clean energy goals, the commission could serve as a valuable lever to the state's economic recovery strategy. The bill was backed by the Imperial County Board of Supervisors.
