A truck loaded with beach pebbles and rocks actually contained a whole lot more.
The truck was at the Tecate cargo crossing Monday morning when it was referred to secondary inspection. At the inspection dock , a U. S. Customs and Border Protection officer noticed some discrepancies in the shipment manifested as multiple tons of beach pebbles and stones and a canine team indicated a positive result for narcotics. CBP officers broke open several large quartz boulders that were part of the shipment and found packages wrapped in electrical tape that had been cemented inside the stones. In all , 229 packages were found concealed in the large rocks. 104 packages of methamphetamine weighing 337 pounds and 125 packages of cocaine , weighing 223 pounds. Total value of the illegal drugs was estimated at nearly $3.9 million.
