The California Highway Patrol is investigating a two-car accident that left 3 people injured.

The accident was reported at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon on westbound Interstate 8 east of Forrester Road. One person was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by Imperial County Fire Department personnel. That individual was airlifted to an out-of-county hospital by REACH Air. Two others were taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center. Westbound I-8 was shut down for. time for the helicopter to land. The accident remains under investigation.
