(Holiday Heat wave)...Excessive heat is expected through Labor Day.
The Imperial Irrigation District is encouraging customers to take simple energy conservation steps to stay cool while helping take the stress off of the local electric grid. CAISO has called for a flex alert, which could mean rolling blackouts over the Holiday weekend. In the past, the IID has been able to optimize energy operatrions and procure energy resources as needed, preparing to meet demnd while avoiding service interruptions. To ensure there are no rolling black-outs, the District is asking customers to conserve, and take the stress off the electric grid. The IID is asking that residents and businesses avoid using major appliances during peak periods from 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Set thermostates at 78 degrees or higher, Use floor or ceiling fans to cool off for less. Just remember to turn them off when you leave the room. Turn off unnecessary lights. Block the sun from overheating your home by using drapes, shades and blinds.
