The report indicates the local jobless rate was down slightly. The Unemployment data is provided by the Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Development Department. The latest report indicates the unemployment rate was at 26.8 percent. That is down from the revised 27.4 percent in June, but above the year-ago estimate of 20.2 percent. This compares with an unadjusted jobless rate of 13.7 percent and 10.5 percent for the nation during the same period. The high numbers are attributed to the business shut-down due the COVID 19 pandemic. During the month of July 19,200 eligible workers were unemployed out of a labor force of 71,500.
