(Agents stop two smuggling attempts)…They happened Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday morning.

In the first incident, a vehicle drove up to the Highway 111 checkpoint at around 2:35 in the afternoon. The silver Nissan contained a male driver and a male passenger. A Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle and it was sent to the secondary inspection area. During the inspection agents found several wrapped packages in a suitcase found in the trunk of the vehicle. The packages tested positive for methamphetamine and heroin. The two men in the vehicle were arrested. The meth weighed 2.4 pounds and was valued at $5,400. The heroin weighed .30 pounds and was valued at $3,640. The 2nd incident occurred at5 just after mid-night Thursday. A man was found walking north of the All American Canal, along the fence near the Calexico East Port of Entry. Surveillance cameras witnessed the man bury something near the Border Fence, and then run south towards the canal. Border Patrol agents arrived and were able to detain the man. They also recovered a sack that had been buried. The sack contained three wrapped packages that tested positive for methamphetamine. The man was arrested. The packages weighed 3.15 pounds with an estimated value of $7,087.
