The Excessive Heat Warning issued last Thursday by the National Weather Service is expected to continue through next Thursday.
Temperatures will continue to hit 115 - 118 degrees through most of the week for the Imperial , Mexicali , and Yuma Valleys but with an increase of humidity and the possibility of thunderstorms. NWS says that any storm that manages to develop will be capable of producing strong winds , blowing dust and heavy rain capable of producing flash floods. Thunderstorms may not make it west of the Colorado River Valley.
The extended heat wave that has encompassed the entire West Coast has caused Cal ISO to order rolling blackouts in areas of Southern California. The Imperial Irrigation District has asked their customers to be energy aware and limit use of major appliances , turn up thermostats to 78 or above , use fans and ceiling fans to keep cool. IID says they are able to meet the energy needs of their customers in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys but by conserving energy consumers can help reduce the strain on the system.
