Stage 1 of the I-8 / Imperial Avenue Project started Monday night.

When completed the project will allow for the extension of Imperial Avenue south of the freeway. As of Monday the eastbound on- and off-ramps are closed to allow for construction crews to remove the ramps. During the week of July 20 the existing bridge will be demolished over a two-night stand. . Stage 1 of the project will last 8 to 10 months. Eastbound traffic is detoured to 4th Street / Highway 86.
