(CBP Fourth of July reminder)…It has to do with fireworks.
Customs and Border Protection is reminding the public that travel restrictions remain in place. For those essential travelers, fireworks are prohibited from entry into the United States. In the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic, the CBP would like to offer helpful tips for those crossing the border on essential travel. To determine if travel is essential vs non essential, reference the Federal Register. If travel is essential, you are asked to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guideline to stay safe. The CBP officers continue their enforcement posture to prevent dangerous products such as fireworks from entering the U.S. If you are crossing fireworks and properly declare them, they will be confiscated, but probably without penalty. Failure to make a proper declaration could result could result in penalties ranging from seizure of the contraband, to seizure of the transporting vehicle and monetary fines. Arrest and prosecution are also possibilities under certain circumstances.
