The Chairman of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors Thursday issued a proclamation requiring face coverings in the unincorporated areas of Yuma County.

Sheriff Leon Wilmot reacted with a statement , " As Sheriff of Yuma County , I feel it is important to inform the public that I recognize the need to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and agree that facemarks are an important part of that plan. However , I was not consulted by the Yuma County Administrator nor the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors regarding the enforceability of this proclamation and so I must inform you that my office does not have the resources to respond to calls for enforcement action regarding the failure to wear face coverings."

Wilmot said that he will not conduct enforcement , nor divert man power from emergency services to conduct face mask enforcement. Wilmot directed complaints about non-compliance with the proclamation be directed to the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors or the County Administrator.
