The El Centro Fire Department responded to a house fire Thursday afternoon.

The house in the 1700 block of N. 18th Street sustained heavy damage from the blaze that was mostly confined to the attic of the single story structure. Chief Kenneth Herbert noted that fire personnel were able to quickly knock down the fire and limit the damage. All El Centro Fire Department personnel were activated for the fire and mutual aid was provided by the City of Imperial Fire Department. Residents of the house were able to escape without injury. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
