(Military troops being sent to the Mexican Border)….The US troops were requested by the Department of Homeland Security.
The Department of Defense approved the request to send 540 additional military troops to the US Border with Mexico. They are to augment the front lines during the corona virus pandemic. Homeland Security says they asked for the personnel to assist federal border agents. Customs and Border Protection says the pandemic has placed the country in a public health crisis and DHS is working with its partners across the government to take action to prevent the further spread of the virus in a Whole of America approach. The deployment will assist when border agents face possible exposure to COVID 19. The CBP says it is not a military operation, nor is it about illegal immigration. It is simply to increase Border Patrol’s situational awareness and the number of personnel on the line so that Border Patrol can better mitigate risks of the corona virus pandemic.
