The State of California has awarded $100 million to cities , counties and Continuums of Care to help the homeless during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Imperial County will receive an allocation of more than $250,000 in emergency grant funding while an additional grant allocation of more than $270,000 for Continuum of Care has been awarded to the county. The funding is intended for measure to help prevent and contain COVID-19 and can be used for medically indicated services and supplies ti include testing and hand-washing stations. The money can also be used for such things as acquiring new shelter operations , increasing shelter capacity , street outreach , and acquiring locations to place individuals who need to be isolated because of COVID-19 illness or exposure. A totally $100 million has been awarded statewide.The money comes from SB89 which authorized up to $1 billion to provide assistance to help fight the spread of COVID-19.
