U. S. officials say don't eat romaine lettuce from Salinas , California.
Consumers have been warned that more than 40 people have been sickened , with 30 hospitalizations. The U. S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating the source of an E-coli outbreak that appears to be caused by romaine lettuce grown and harvested in the Salinas area. Officials say the warning applies to all types of romaine from the Salinas region , including whole heads , hearts of romaine , and pre-cut salad mixes that have romaine. Authorities say that if consumers can't verify the origin of romaine or mixes they should throw it away. No issues with the romaine harvest from other regions have been identified.
