(Mark Watton announces his retirement)….He said he will retire in February 2020.
Watton is the long time General Manager of the Otay Water District. For over 30 years he has been involved in most all of the San Diego County water issues. He was one of the main negotiators in the Quantification Settlement Agreement water transfer between San Diego County Water Authority and the Imperial Irrigation District. Watton is credited with finding common ground between San Diego County and the IID, and leading the fight against directors on the Los Angeles Based Metropolitan Water District Board, who tried to block the water transfer because they feared losing control over San Diego’s water supply. Officials with San Diego County Water Authority say Watton helped shape water policy in the San Diego region. The 65 year old Watton said over-all, he is fully satisfied with his career.
