An El Centro man is facing criminal charges after a Tuesday night incident.
According to El Centro Police Department Commander Aaron Reel , 41-year old Fernando Gutierrez was arrested after intentionally driving his vehicle into three people standing in the carport area of a house in the 700 block of Buena Vista Street in El Centro. The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when Gutierrez drove through a pillar and purposefully ran into two men and a woman standing in the carport area. Gutierrez then backed out and fled south on 8th Street before his heavily damaged vehicle went out of control and struck two poles in the area of 8th and Rose Streets. Gutierrez then fled on foot. Following an extensive search he was taken into custody in the 200 block of North Imperial Avenue. Gutierrez was transported to the hospital for treatment and then booked at Imperial County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. One of the three subjects injured at the house was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the other two were treated at the scene. According to Commander Reel , the attack was apparently in retaliation for a previous fight between Gutierrez and two the the injured subjects.
