(A piece of history)…It traveled through the County Tuesday.
It was the last active steam locomotive, Big Boy Number 4014. The locomotive was built for Union Pacific in 1941. 25 of the large steam locomotives were constructed, with 8 surviving, and only one, No.4014, rebuilt and still active. As part of Union Pacific’s 150th anniversary, Big Boy is touring the country. Tuesday the locomotive made a whistle stop in Niland and another in Andrade, before moving on to Yuma. It left Yuma Wednesday morning, headed through Arizona, to the Midwest.
