(Two vehicle collision)…It results in two fatals and 3 injured.
The California Highway Patrol says the collision was reported at around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon. It occurred at the intersection of English and Schrimpf Roads. The CHP says Josue Gonzalez was driving a Ford van southbound on English. Andre Dos Santos De Sa was driving a Hyundai Elantra westbound on Schrimpf. The Highway Patrol says the intersection is not controlled by stop signs in either direction. The preliminary investigation indicates both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time. They say the front of the van collided with the right side of the Elantra. A 26 year old passenger in one of the vehicles, a female from New Jersey, was not wearing her seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries. Another female passenger and a 29 year old passenger from Michigan, were flown to Desert Regional Hospital by REACH Air Ambulance. The woman succumbed from her injuries at the Hospital. Gonzalez was transported to JFK Hospital in Indio and De Sa was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley. The CHP says alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the collision. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
