(IID and Mexican energy provider partnership)…It was recognized Thursday in Calexico.
In an example of how parties from two countries can collaborate to serve the public good and strengthen relations, officials from the Imperial Irrigation District and Mexico’s Centro Nacional de Control de Energia gathered to salute their successful joint US/Mexico partnership. Under an existing presidential permit the district holds with the US Department of Energy, since the end of June, the IID has implemented a remedial action plan to provide a continuous flow of electrical energy to a growing and underserved region in Mexicali that requires added capacity to get through the warm summer months. The partnership was recognized at a gathering in the Calexico City Council Chambers. A double circuit at the Bravo Substation in Calexico allows the IID to send excess energy to Mexicali. The two utilities were able to deliver up to 27 megawatts of energy to an area in Mexicali that includes industrial businesses, a hospital and thousands of homes. The energy use for that area peaked at 20 megawatts this summer, averaging mostly between 13-15 megawatts. IID’s customer base was not affected.
