(2 Alarm Fire)…It was a structure fire in El Centro.

The report came in at just before 4:00 Tuesday afternoon. The first El Centro fire crew arrived at the scene in the 1700 block of North McDonald Street within minutes of the first call. The first in-battalion Chief found the single story, single family dwelling with heavy fire and smoke from the front of the residence. A second alarm was initiated requesting one Truck Company, 3 Engine Companies and two Chief Officers from Calexico, Holtville, Imperial and the County Fire Departments. Firefighters performed an aggressive attack on the fire, and were able to gain entry and perform a search and rescue operation. The fire was quickly extinguished. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent homes. There was one injury reported. That person was flown out of the county to an out-of-county burn center. Also assisting was AMR Ambulance, REACH Air Ambulance, El Centro Police, EC Fire investigations, the IID, Southern California Gas, and the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
