Agents assigned to the US Border Patrol checkpoint on westbound Interstate 8, between Campo and Pine Valley encountered the vehicle. The 2007 Volkswagen Jetta was referred to the secondary inspection area. A Border Patrol k-9 performed a sniff of the vehicle. The k-9 alerted to the dashboard. An inspection of the dashboard area resulted in the discovery of 4 bundles in an after-market compartment. The bundles weighed almost ten pounds, with an estimated street value of $98,800. The driver of the vehicle, a 25 year old citizen of Mexico had a legal Border Crossing card. He was placed under arrest. The driver and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Border Patrol agents seized the vehicle.
