(Fatal injury collision)…It occurred Monday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol says a farm tractor collided into the side of a vehicle. The CHP says the collision was reported at around 12:10 Monday afternoon at the intersection of Norrish Road and Holt Road near Holtville. The vehicle, a GMC Truck, was being driven by a 41 year old Calipatria resident. The Volvo Tractor was being driven by 27 year old Gurpartap Singh out of Ontario, Canada. Singh was driving the tractor westbound on Norrish. The Highway Patrol says Singh failed to stop at the posted intersection with Holt. The tractor broadsided the GMC, causing the truck to plunge into the Rosita Canal, where it became completely submerged. Singh attempted to reach the driver of the truck, but the CHP says he could not reach him. A firefighter and a Sheriff’s Deputy also attempted a rescue, but because of the strong currents, they had to be rescued themselves. Singh was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries he suffered in the collision. The California Highway Patrol says the incident is still under investigation. They say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the collision. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
