(Assemblyman takes a stand)…Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia said he has been very clear on his stand.
He was talking about Assembly Bill 854. Garcia was interviewed Friday on KXO AM 1230. That interview is available as a podcast on the website, kxoradio.com. The Assemblyman said AB 854 was a poorly written bill, and that it was not the intent of the author to threaten Imperial Irrigation District’s water rights. The Bill, authored by Assemblyman Chad Mayes of Riverside County, would give Riverside residents six seats on the IID board of Directors. That would give Riverside a controlling vote on everything the IID did, including water issues, threatening the District’s water rights. Garcia said the bill should stipulate if one member from Riverside County is appointed to the Board, that member would only be able to vote on Power issues, and would have to rights to vote on water issues. He said Mayes needs to speak with the IID Board to discuss their concerns. Garcia said he would be willing to facilitate such a meeting.
