(Details on fatal injury collision)…It occurred Tuesday near Ocotillo.
The California Highway Patrol says at around 11:00 pm a 20 year old Brawley woman was driving her Toyota west on Interstate 8, west of the Highway 98 Y. The CHP says the preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was in the number 1 lane. The vehicle drifted towards the center median and mountain side. The driver over corrected to the right, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and subsequently drive off the north road edge and down a rocky ravine. The driver suffered fatal injuries. The Highway Patrol says the collision was not discovered until 8:30 the following morning. The driver of an RV called 911 to report a Toyota was over the side of the ravine. The CHP believes the vehicle rolled several times as it went down the ravine. The driver was wearing her seatbelt, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the collision. The collision remains under investigation.
