A member of the Imperial County Board of Education has been charged with two felonies.
Imperial County District Attorney Gilbert G. Otero announced Tuesday that Annette Gonzales Buttner has been charged with two felony counts involving Perjury by Declaration and False Declaration of Candidacy. The charges stem from an investigation by District Attorney's investigators into allegations that Ms. Buttner is not a resident of Imperial County. According to Otero , " Elected officials cannot claim under penalty of perjury that they reside at a specific address in order to become elected." Ms. Buttner is scheduled to be arraigned on February 8, 2019 at the Brawley West Court. If convicted , she faces fines and up to four years in county jail.
Buttner represents District 1 which includes Calexico. The charges stem from allegations that she actually lives in Santa Clara and not at the Calexico address she listed as her residence in declaring her candidacy for the Imperial County office.
