Border Patrol agents arrested a woman and her two passengers after they attempted to smuggle methamphetamine.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 86 near Salton City. A 36-year old woman driving a Chevy Camaro stopped at the checkpoint and a canine detection team alerted to the car. In secondary inspection , agents discovered the driver and one of the passengers , a 27-year old woman , each had two small packages of meth hidden , one internally and the other beneath her clothing. The methamphetamine weighed nearly three-quarters of a pound and has a street value of over $23,000. Both women and a 37-year old man who was also a passenger , all U.S. citizens , were arrested and turned over to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Team for further investigation.
