An Imperial County Sheriff's deputy shot a suspect in a stolen car.
At about 10:37 a.m. Friday , iCSO investigators saw a car that was reported stolen. There were two occupants in the car. The deputies conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot at 7th and Broadway in El Centro. As the investigators walked towards the vehicle , the driver accelerated towards one of the investigators. Two shots were fired in an attempt to stop the threat. The suspects than drove off at a high rate of speed. The investigators pursued the car until they hit a dead end near 6th and Woodward in El Centro,. The driver of the stolen car and the passenger attempted to flee on foot but were taken into custody a short time later. Once the pair were in custody it was evident that one of the suspects , the passenger , identified as 18-year old Jerico Duron . had been shot in the torso. Duron was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center and then life-flited to an out of county hospital. The driver , identified as 29-year old Ivan Velasquez from El Centro , was not injured.. Velasquez was in possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition of a different caliber was recovered from the area where Duron was taken into custody. The investigation is continuing.
