(County Supports State Energy Commission)…The Commission wants to recover Lithium.
Earlier this month the California Energy Commission held a workshop on the prospect of recovering lithium from geothermal brine at the Salton Sea. A large number of industry and government representatives discussed the potential for this new industry. Lead Commissioner David Hocheschild proposed the possibility of forming a Lithium Task Force to further explore the possibilities of furthering research and development of this effort. The Commission asked for comments on the proposed idea. Tuesday the Board of Supervisors approved a letter supporting the commission’s efforts and offering assistance in any way possible. Andy Horne, Deputy County Executive Officer, said Imperial County is the only location being considered for this new industry.
