(The migrant caravan has arrived)…And it will continue to arrive for awhile.
Thousands of Honduran and Guatemalan migrants have arrived in Tijuana, and several hundred are in Mexicali. They were bused to the north from Central Mexico. The migrants say they are seeking asylum in the United States. Shelters in Mexicali are reportedly full of people, who are waiting for buses to transport them to Tijuana. They have not said if they will be seeking asylum at the Calexico Ports, with some saying they will be moving on to Tijuana area. There have been threats of violence if the migrants are not attended to immediately, and some of that has been evident in the Tijuana/San Ysidro area with people scaling the border fence and clashing with officials on the US side. No incidents have been reported at the Mexicali/Calexico Border. Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection and military troops say they are prepared for any eventuality. Officials in Tijuana say they expect the migrants to be in the area for up to six months, with even more arriving from time to time.
