A $3 million grant from the Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration will build a workforce training facility in El Centro.
The project will support the construction of a 10,000 square foot workforce training center that will include 10 classrooms , a hands-on instruction lab , computer server storage and conference rooms. The building is planned to be a Net-Zero Building , meaning the total amount of energy used by the building on an annual basis is roughly equal to the amount of renewable energy generated on site.
The training center will provide a qualified , highly skilled work force for the unionized electrical and sound telecommunications industries and is supported by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 569. The project is estimated to create 332 jobs.
