(Henry Alarcon Passed away on Saturday)…He was 95
. The long time El Centro resident was originally born in Los Angeles. He moved to the El Centro area with his family in the 1930’s. He owned and operated Henry’s Jewelry Store for 45 years. He also became the Cities first Hispanic City Council member in 1969. He served on the council until 1983. He served two terms as El Centro Mayor, the first in 1971 and then again in 1982. Alarcon also served on the Board of Directors of the League of California Cities simultaneous to his tenure on the City Council. He was among the first members of Mexican descent on that board. ALARCON WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN ESTABLISHING THE El Centro Community Center and Swarthout Park. Services are pending.
