The Imperial Irrigation District Board will hear from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Brenda W. Burman Tuesday.
Commissioner Burman will address the Board and the public about the challenging hydrology at Lake Mead and the Bureau's efforts to develop drought contingency plans for the Colorado River watershed to mitigate against expected shortage triggers outlined in the 2007 guidelines. The presentation is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday , May 22, 2018 at the William R. Condit Auditorium during the IID's regularly scheduled board meeting.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is the lead agency that helps maintain 475 dams and 337 reservoirs that provide 30 million acre feet of water in 17 western states. The agency also oversees the maintenance of 53 hydroelectric power plants that generate 40 billion kilowatt hours annually, approximately 15% of the nations hydropower.
