(Update on new expanded Port of Entry)…County Supervisor John Renison gave the update.
A Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Renison said a serious issue may have been resolved. The issue was on the opening of the New Port. Mexican officials had said they would be opening their new port in July, while US officials said the northbound port would be opening in September. Renison said both sides have agreed the opening of both sides would not be in September. Renison said there was another problem. He said the renovation and upgrades for Cesar Chavez Boulevard, where traffic is expected to go in and out of Mexico, will not begin until the end of the year. He said that could mean serious traffic issues, much worse than what is currently experienced on Imperial Avenue. Currently, there is no way around that issue.
