(Water Safety Month is underway)…It actually began in late April.

It is the Imperial Irrigation District’s campaign to keep people from swimming in canals. The IID Operates and maintains over 3,100 miles of canals and drains in Imperial county. They say many have canal gates that operate remotely, causing water levels to change suddenly. The elementary school campaign, Stay Alive, Play Safe, Be Cool reinforces Dippy Duck’s three rules; Never Swim in a Canal, Never Play, run, walk or ride a bicycle near a canal, and never jump into a canal. The IID has conducted the water safety program since 1959. Dippy Duck was brought on as the official mascot in 1966.
