Huanglonbing (HLB) citrus disease has been discovered in Imperial County.

HLB, or citrus greening disease, was found in one tree on a residential property in Calexico. It is the first HLB detection in the county. The California Department of Food and Agriculture  (CDFA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirmed the disease and this triggers a mandatory 5-mile-radius quarantine area around the find site to restrict the movement of citrus fruit, trees and related plant material. The southern area of the boundary is the international border with Mexico and is bordered by McCabe Road to the north, Rockwood Street on the west and Barbara Worth Road on the east. HLB is a bacterial disease that affects citrus trees and plants. It does not affect humans or animals. Once the tree is infected , there is no cure and the tree will die. The tree in Calexico has been treated and removed and CDFA staff is surveying all citrus trees within a 250-meter radius around the detection site.
