The Imperial Irrigation District will overhaul the Drop 3 Hydroelectric Plant on the All-American Canal.

The 5-megawatt Unit 2 has been in service since 1966. The renewal project recently approved by the Board will replace and rehabilitate major turbine and generator components. This is expected to restore the unit's generation capability and extend the service life for decades. Drop 3 is one of several hydroelectric plants on the All-American Canal. The district is able to harness the water as it travels through the canal and generate electricity. The project is expected to cost nearly $20 million.
