The Imperial County Fire Department (ICFD) had their hands full Thursday.

Three major incidents occurred Thursday beginning with a four alarm fire in Ocotillo. At 3:00 p.m., ICFD responded to the report of a structure fire in the area f Sierra Vista Avenue and Agate Road in Ocotillo. Arriving firefighters found a rapidly spreading fire involving several structures and large LPG tanks. Fire personnel had to pull back when ammunition began cooking off in the blaze. Strong winds and 115 degree temperatures compounded the risks. County Fire requested mutual aid and equipment and personnel from Calexico, El Centro, Holtville, Westmorland, Naval Air Facility El Centro and City of Yuma Fire. Imperial County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol, CalOES Fire and Rescue and AMR Ambulance. 

Residents in the vicinity of the fire were evacuated for safety reasons. A total of four structures were destroyed. Firefighters successfully worked to save nine additional residences and potential involvement of up to 16 more structures. No injuries were reported. Cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

Resources were strained as a second alarm fire in Brawley and another second alarm fire in Holtville were also reported.
