Monday is Memorial Day.

For some it's the unofficial start of summer, or big sales but for many it's a day of solemn remembrance of those who lost their lives in defense of our country. There will be several solemn ceremonies and tributes for Memorial Day in the Imperial Valley. At 9:00 a.m. a traditional tribute will be hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9305. The ceremonies will be at the Veteran's Circle at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro. At 10:00 a.m. VFW Post 9305 will participate in a public ceremony at Bucklin Park in El Centro. This ceremony traditionally highlights the reading of names being added to the Veteran's Wall. Calexico will hold a Memorial Day ceremony starting at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery with guest speakers and floral tributes. Traditional gatherings will be held at held at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley at 10:00 a.m. and Memory Gardens Cemetery. The Fleet Reserve Association and Post 289, American Legion Post 820, VFW Post 5477 and the City of Imperial will host solemn ceremonies at Veterans Park at 10:00 a.m.
