An off-road accident on Friday the 13th claimed the life of a quad rider.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Friday in the open desert south of State Route 78 and east of Old Mine Road near Ocotillo Wells. A 2025 Raptor 700R was heading northerly when the quad overturned. The rider, a 70-year-old man, was thrown from the vehicle and died from the injuries he sustained. The accident remains under investigation.
