The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors have adopted a resolution proclaiming a local emergency.

The proclamation was made at a special meeting of the board on Tuesday morning. The declaration clears the way for the district's eligibility for state disaster assistance. Tropical Storm Mario hit the Imperial Valley on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Exceptionally high winds, heavy rainfall and flooding severely damaged portions of the IID's energy infrastructure. An estimated 134 power poles were damaged affecting nearly 7,000 customers. The IID is continuing to evaluate the full extent of the damage and schedule complete repairs. The Board's resolution is an effort to protect IID customers from the full cost of the disaster by requesting funding support from the California Disaster Assistance Act.
