( Traffic was backed up for over two hours Sunday)...It was on Interstate 8, near Ocotillo.
The California Highway Patrol says a San Diego man was driving east on the Interstate when his vehicle hit a guard rail and rolled over. The driver reportedly got out of the vehicle suffering a head wound. The man was carrying a machete. He stood on the side of the road until law enforcement arrived. The Highway Patrol says in talking with the unidentified man, they concluded the crash was not accidental. They say it appears the man wanted to harm himself. As the officers spoke with the man, he indicated he was holding the machete in hopes the officers would shoot him. The officers had other plans and were able to disarm the man without incident. The man was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment for the head injury and later taken to Behavioral Health. Traffic on the Interstate, both east and west was backed up for over two hours before the incident was resolved.
