(Brawley Police are launching a campaign).....It is a public education campaign.
The Brawley PD is launching an educational campaign to inform the community about a change to the California Vehicle Code. It is designed to enhance pedestrian safety at intersections. At the first of the year an update to the vehicle code made it illegal to stop, park or leave a vehicle within 20 feet of the approach side of any marked or unmarked crosswalk, or within 15 feet of a crosswalk where a curb extension is present. To help the public adjust to this change, the Brawley Police Department will conduct a warning citation phase from now through June 21st. During this phase, officers will issue warning citations only for violations of the new law in an effort to educate drivers and promote compliance. Police Chief Jimmy Duran says their goal is not to penalize but to educate.
